Developers of an international weather app are forecasting growth after making Coventry their UK base.

Weather and Radar has plans to offer more than an online source for daily forecasts and wants to be a service for the general public and media outlets across the United Kingdom.

The free app has a live weather radar, hourly and daily weather forecasts, a 14-day weather outlook, and now it is now pushing forward with plans to create engaging content for users.

The plan is to recruit a team of experts over the coming months to come up with new and interesting stories and online content for users to read on the app, which is available for both Android and IOS phones.

The firm, which is the sister company of WetterOnline Meteorologische Dienstleistungen GmbH – the leading online weather and news source in Germany, has made the University of Warwick Science Park’s Venture Centre in Coventry its UK home.

Ditte Nielsen, Country Manager of Weather and Radar in the UK and Ireland, said that by using cutting edge technology the company can become the best online source for forecasting and interesting meteorological news pieces.

“We have ambitious plans for the future as not only do we want to be an app that is used by people for their daily forecast, but also, an online source for great stories and well-written content,” she said.

“We hope to have employed two or three people by the end of the year to help with this and drive the site app to be much more.

“The different variations of the app around the globe have been hugely successful, so we want to make sure that the trend continues in the UK.

“The University of Warwick Science Park’s Venture Centre is the perfect fit for us, it’s a great location and we also have access to the university and all of its facilities, so it works extremely well.”

Across the globe, versions of the app operate in more than 30 countries and have 15 million users per month. In the UK there are 500,000 people who have downloaded the app already and using it as a source of information regularly.

Jane Talbot, Centre Manager at the University of Warwick Science Park’s Venture Centre on Sir William Lyons Road, said: “It is fantastic to welcome Weather and Radar to the Venture Centre.

“The University of Warwick’s Science Park sites are places where companies can grow at their own pace, so this is the perfect fit for Weather and Radar as they move forward with their plan.

“It will be interesting to see how this develops and how the app progresses over the coming weeks and months and where the Science Park will be able to support that growth.”
