Ignite Applied AI Lab launches new AI Masterclass series to help businesses turn AI opportunities into action

The University of Warwick Science Park’s Ignite Applied AI Lab has launched its new Applied AI Masterclass series, bringing businesses together to explore how artificial intelligence can be applied practically to improve productivity, support growth and create new opportunities.

The first workshop, AI Fundamentals for Business Growth, took place at the University of Warwick Science Park’s Venture Centre, giving participants an opportunity to cut through the noise around AI and develop a clearer understanding of the technology, its potential applications and what it means for their own organisations.

The masterclass is the first in a series of practical sessions being delivered through the Ignite Applied AI Lab, designed to help businesses progress from understanding AI to identifying opportunities and putting solutions into practice.

Dirk Schaefer, Head of Commercial (Innovation & Growth) at University of Warwick Science Park, said: “Artificial intelligence has the potential to transform the way organisations operate, but many businesses are still trying to understand what that means in practice for their own growth and productivity.

“The purpose of the Ignite Applied AI Lab is to bridge that gap between awareness and action. Through this masterclass series, we are helping businesses cut through the hype, identify real opportunities and build the confidence to adopt AI in a way that delivers measurable value.

“Our focus is not on technology for technology’s sake, but on helping organisations use AI to solve problems or improve productivity where this makes sense.”

The session focused on AI fundamentals and business growth, providing participants with an accessible introduction to the rapidly developing AI landscape while keeping the discussion firmly focused on business outcomes.

For many organisations, the challenge is no longer simply understanding what AI is, but identifying where it can deliver meaningful value. The Ignite Applied AI Lab has been established to help businesses navigate that challenge, combining education, specialist expertise and practical support.

Rob Arnold of Ascendea AI, a specialist partner supporting the Ignite Applied AI Lab, was involved in delivering the first masterclass.

Rob said: “Businesses are moving beyond asking what AI is and are now asking where it can deliver genuine value.

“The session demonstrated the importance of starting with real business challenges, selecting practical uses and building confidence through action.

“That is how organisations can move beyond the hype and achieve measurable improvements in productivity and growth.”

The Applied AI Masterclass series forms part of the wider Ignite Applied AI Lab, which supports organisations looking to build their AI capability, identify and validate use cases, and develop and deploy AI solutions.

Following the first session, the programme will continue with further masterclasses exploring different aspects of applied AI, including productivity, content creation, marketing and sales automation, chatbots and voice agents, workflow automation, AI strategy, data analysis and agentic AI.

The aim is to provide businesses with practical knowledge they can take away and apply, while creating opportunities to learn from AI specialists and other organisations navigating the same rapidly changing landscape.

The next Applied AI Masterclass will continue the series’ focus on practical, business-led applications of AI, with further sessions taking place as part of the Ignite Applied AI Lab programme.
