New Innovate UK funding competitions launched
Innovate UK has recently launched a number of new funding competitions to help tackle industry challenges ranging from robotics to smart energy systems.

- Audience of the future: design foundations – closes 4th July 2018
This competition is for early-stage projects that use customer research to generate ideas that meet customer needs. Fast, low-cost prototyping and user testing of those ideas is also within scope. Projects should deliver well-defined, user-validated ideas ready for further technical research and development (R&D).
- Audience of the future: demonstrators – closes 1st August 2018
This competition aims to explore future global, mass market, commercial opportunities in the creative industries. Primarily this will be through pre-commercial collaboration at scale.
- Precision medicine technologies: shaping the future – closes 11th July 2018
Applications can be for either feasibility study projects or industrial research and experimental development projects, although projects may have work packages in different research categories if necessary.
- Open programme funding competition round 1 – closes 11th July 2018
This competition is open to the best cutting-edge or disruptive ideas or concepts with a view to commercialisation. These can come from any area of technology, science or engineering, including arts, design, media or creative industries, and be applied to any part of the economy.
- Smart local energy systems: concepts and designs – closes 25th July 2018
UK Research and Innovation will invest up to £1.5 million to fund revolutionary concept and design studies for new, smarter approaches to local energy. These approaches must aim to provide cleaner, cheaper energy services for UK consumers in the 2020s while helping make communities more prosperous and resilient.
- Smart local energy systems: demonstrators – closes 25th July 2018
This competition aims to invest in up to 3 world-leading practical smart energy systems demonstrators. These will include new business models that intelligently link supply, storage and demand patterns across power, heating and transport.
