Technology enhancing heritage
The Innovation Centre at Blythe Valley Business Park, managed by the University of Warwick Science Park, played host recently to a breakfast meeting and display of the latest Jaguar models.
With an audience of over thirty business people, who had the opportunity of test- driving the cars, Jaguar Cars' UK Marketing Director, Ian Major, acknowledged the contribution that small innovative companies have made to the success of the company. He commented, "It's appropriate that we should be at the Innovation Centre here at Blythe Valley, as no fewer than 14 technology led companies, at the Science Park's various locations, supply directly into Jaguar."
Indicating how important the automotive industry is to the region's economy, he went on to explain that Jaguar car sales have virtually trebled in four years in spite of the general decline within the manufacturing sector. This success is underscored by the fact that this year has already seen the launch of three new Jaguar models.
Ian added, "It's appropriate too, that as a premium automotive manufacturer, Jaguar is harnessing the latest that technology has to offer. Not only to provide an enhanced product to our clients, but to achieve the highest levels of corporate responsibility through improved efficiencies. And by doing so, make a contribution to protect resources and the environment- issues that will increasingly impact on global corporate policies and practices."
John Barnes, Manager, Innovation Centres added, "Jaguar has a fantastic heritage and has been making an enormous contribution to the regional and national economy for 80 years. With an active policy of using local suppliers the company is a high quality customer, or potential customer, for many of our Science Park based companies-long may it be so."
