Service set to cut paper overload

A software-service development company is set to help SME's cut necessary but time consuming administrative chores by providing a web-based service.

Helped by the University of Warwick Science Park's TeamStart programme, One Small Cog Ltd is set to launch a service that will allow small to medium professional service companies to handle their paper work more effectively.

A University of Warwick PhD and now company director, John Vaudin explains "I helped establish another successful business on the Science Park but soon discovered that maintaining the paperwork, critical to the day to day working of the business, was very time consuming. It was that experience that determined me to develop a service that would make the administrative process easier, more accurate, and faster. It also means more time to concentrate on making more money."

John emphasises that whilst in the start up process the TeamStart programme gave One Small Cog Ltd a prestigious postal address and support facilities, it was the marketing seminars and mentoring advice provided by the team that was particularly useful. As an alternative to more expensive 'off the shelf' products, One Small Cog's solution is thought to be unique.

Only costing £9-99 per month per user, the service uses web technology and eliminates up front costs such as software licences and server hardware. As an example, service subscribers can process timesheets, expenses and budgets by web- based software, into invoices, project costs and staff utilisation reports. Information can be input by employees at the office, their home or even at the client's premises, providing there is Internet access.

Harry Stott, Project Director adds, "It is great that the TeamStart programme has helped develop the One Small Cog concept. We hope that the company's service will now help other SME's to mange their business more effectively. It will be especially helpful to businesses such as consultancies, legal or architectural practices which employ people who have to accurately account for their time."
