Innovation business networks success
A business initiative aimed at SME's is proving to be a success with Coventry companies.
Pioneered and run by the University of Warwick Science Park, initially with support from the European Regional Development Fund, the Innovation Business Network has concentrated on providing workshops, presentations and discussion forums on topics of interest to SME's such as e-learning, data protection and employment law. Delegates from up to forty local companies attend the meetings. Karen Aston, Manager of the Business Innovation Centre at Binley, explains, "It is very important that people managing SME's have access to inexpensive, convenient and relevant meetings. As well as the formal sessions, I believe that attendees find the networking opportunities very helpful."
Eamonn Gabriel, Business Director of innovative software development company challengecomputers.com, endorses the view; "When you're growing a small business it's very helpful to have the chance of putting your head above the parapet to see what other people are doing, what's going on in general and what business developments may be presenting themselves. Last week, for instance, there was a very helpful presentation by go4gain an online directory and networking portal specifically for the West Midlands."
As well as more technically orientated sessions the Business Innovation Network plans more prosaic subjects. Karen adds, "Next month we are planning meetings on pensions relating to smaller businesses and one entitled 'Taxing Times' the content, I suspect, will be pretty self explanatory."
Anyone interested in joining and is within the Coventry area should contact Karen Aston on 02476 430003.
