New software cluster opens for business
Seven local software companies, under the auspices of the University of Warwick Science Park, have formed the region's first software 'Cluster'.
"The Warwick Software Cluster is an exciting development for businesses in the region. For the first time a large group of software development companies have got together to offer an unparalleled level of expertise and service. We provide solutions that are simply not available anywhere else," says Alexander Craig, Director of member company bit10 ltd.
Bill Taylor, Project Executive, explains, "There is growing evidence, worldwide, that Clusters work. Businesses that cooperate, share information, and work towards common objectives, tend to grow more quickly by providing customers with what they need- wide ranging and in depth expertise." The Cluster is concentrating on marketing, collaborative product development and joint technologies. Peer group pressure and a natural competitiveness within the group, ensures best practice and high levels of quality control.

The Science Park acts in a secretarial role and facilitator with a secondary role as honest broker and fund holder. The official launch event for the Cluster is scheduled for March 14th. The initiative is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund as part of the regional strategy of encouraging the growth of high value, knowledge based businesses.
