Worlds Beaters!
Two Science Park company representatives renewed an old acquaintance recently-with Thrust SSC, the world's fastest land vehicle.
Mark Morley, Marketing Manager of PTC (UK) Ltd explains, "The University of Warwick Science Park is home to a number of blue chip companies such as ourselves and the location, combined with the association of one of the UK's leading Universities, provides us with a dynamic environment for us to conduct our business. PTC (UK) Ltd, formerly Computervision, developed the software for Thrust's design, and was one of the first companies to locate on the Science Park way back in 1983. Many of our customers are based within a 100 mile radius of Coventry and we have decided to extend our commitment to the Science Park by extending our lease for the foreseeable future."
GKN Mechatronics, represented by Steve Cater, Business Development Manager, has recently moved to the Blythe Valley Innovation Centre, which is managed by the Science Park. GKN helped develop the suspension system to the SSC's forerunner. The company is continuing to bring the best aerospace and automotive expertise into the mainstream automotive market.
Thrust SSC broke the world's land speed record in December 1997 when it clocked 763 mph. The record still stands. Tom Webster the Science Park's Deputy Director comments, "Many of the companies based on the Science Park, and its satellite locations, are involved in the region's automotive industry. It's gratifying that Science Park companies have been involved in creating a world beating vehicle."
