Innovation Business Net Works
The largest forum of IT technology based business managers in Coventry and Warwickshire assembled recently at the University of Warwick Science Park's Business Innovation Centre, Binley.
Seventy delegates met under the auspices of the Science Park's Innovation Business Network to hear David Rowe, the Science Park's Director, outline the objectives of the Network- to draw together like-minded businesses to develop ideas and create new business opportunities.
Speaking at the IBN meeting was David Frost, newly appointed Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber and Business Link Director. He stressed the need for IT companies to network and grow highlighting the Government's target to achieve a total of 78,000 of the region's 288,000 small businesses to be trading on line by December 2002. He added that currently only 2% of small businesses trade online.
The Innovation Business Network, which is supported by the European Economic Development Fund, encourages company networking. Typical is the Regional IT Association- RITA.
The association, which shared the platform, acts as a dynamic networking forum for the region's technically orientated small companies, many of which are among the Science Park's 102 tenants.
Fred Noble, Chief Executive of Adecs Ltd and Chairman of RITA commented, "The association is not just a talking shop. RITA creates real business opportunities for member companies. There are several examples of consortiums being formed by members to tender for and win large contracts that are too large for the individual company to tackle. We are genuinely a 'one stop shop."
